Sotogrande Port Awarded Green Flag For Sustainability
Sotogrande is the only port in Andalusia awarded the green flag for sustainable tourism by the Spanish Institute for Tourism Quality (ICTE).
This prestigious S flag for Sustainability, earned by Sotogrande alone among Andalusian ports, highlights the port’s commitment to environmental standards. Located in San Roque, Sotogrande is one of 400 nautical destinations in Spain to receive the Q Quality flag and one of only 18 to hold the S flag, a testament to the high standards required by the ICTE.
At the flag-raising ceremony, San Roque’s Councillor for Tourism, Alfonso Valdivia, emphasised that more tourists seek destinations committed to environmental care. Sotogrande Port Director Miguel Ángel Diez added that this award reflects over a decade of sustainability work, also marked by the port’s blue flag and ISO certifications.
The ICTE, established to promote quality assurance in tourism, verifies these recognitions through independent audits, ensuring that recipients align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN’s Agenda 2030.
